Simon Squibb: Dream vs. Goal
Show notes
In this episode, Jan connects with entrepreneur and visionary Simon Squibb to dissect the fundamental difference between a dream and a goal. Simon, who went from being homeless at 15 to becoming a multi-millionaire, shares his radical philosophy on why "monetizing your dream" is the only path to true fulfillment.
Together, they discuss the flaws of the modern education system, the trap of middle-class comfort, and why pure willpower often fails where deep-seated necessity succeeds. It is a raw, high-energy conversation about taking ownership of your life and turning "crazy" dreams into inevitable realities.

00:00:03: The difference between a want and need.
00:00:06: Yeah, no one makes it.
00:00:07: It's just something you want because everybody wants to be rich Everybody wants to fit.
00:00:11: I think that if i was dating someone... ...I'd lose my six pack And then broke up within a short period of time My six-pack would probably back.
00:00:18: So in other words.. I needed it!
00:00:20: And not wanted it, right?
00:00:25: Simon Scrip!
00:00:26: Scrip going mental.
00:00:27: You're somebody who has made dreaming popular.
00:00:30: What is your dream?
00:00:31: Your dream Is something you can say That could very crazy And a goal probably is step-by-step thing.
00:00:40: A twenty minute run today, that's the goal.
00:00:42: but my dream was to be able to run a triathlon.
00:00:45: Martin Luther King didn't say he had a plan He did not have any goals.
00:00:49: So I dreamed of fixing an education system.
00:00:54: I sold my company, a company called Fluid by really lovely house By brand new car Porsche.
00:00:59: and then i sat in this house with my Porsche outside front and thought thats it!
00:01:02: I've made it!
00:01:04: Honestly for first six months amazing.
00:01:07: But turns out I wasn't satisfied.
00:01:10: I didn't have a point.
00:01:12: What makes us happiest helping each other?
00:01:13: Oxytocin is released when we help our fellow human because We're tribal and that's what i've learned.
00:01:17: wish everybody understood.
00:01:19: just take five minutes to Help someone today.
00:01:20: you will see why
00:01:21: me.
00:01:23: You've made it in from the world up, you Started on your very own.
00:01:29: whats there to fear?
00:01:29: this
00:01:30: Is therapy.
00:01:30: thank you i was gonna get a therapy session today.
00:01:34: sorry audience
00:01:50: Simon squibb squib going mental.
00:01:53: This is very, very exciting for me.
00:01:54: I feel like you're somebody who's made dreaming popular on the internet.
00:02:00: What's your dream has really become something that's resonated with so many people and as an athlete of course having lived dreams For many years i would Really appreciate if You could share Your thoughts On The difference Between a Dream And A Goal.
00:02:16: They Are Connected.
00:02:18: I think a dream Is Something You Can Say.
00:02:22: That can Be Very Very Crazy.
00:02:25: mm-hmm and a goal probably not always but in my mind is A step by step thing.
00:02:33: So I can set myself for gold.
00:02:35: we were just talking before the podcast started about you know doing a twenty minute run today.
00:02:39: That's ago, but my dream.
00:02:41: Is to be able to run a triathlon?
00:02:44: Okay And when i'm ten kilos overweight as am right now perhaps that sounds crazy to some people.
00:02:49: I have said to my wife, I'd love a run of triathlon and she'll be like but you're healthy.
00:02:53: You sure?
00:02:54: Whereas if I tell her i'm going for a twenty minute run today She's not gonna worry as much.
00:02:57: Yeah.
00:02:58: So I think the dream The whole point.
00:02:59: you know Martin Luther King And I've said this in my book and I know you read my books so My listeners might not have done...I thought well with Martin Luther king He didn't say he had a plan yeah..He Didn't Say he Had A Goal!
00:03:12: He Said they had a Dream because it something you can express Without Feeling Judgment If You Don't Do It Tomorrow or if it does sound impossible.
00:03:21: So my dream is to fix the education system and allow anyone to learn, to do what they love.
00:03:28: And so when I say that's people like The Education System has been the same for a hundred years.
00:03:33: It's not going to change.
00:03:35: You will you'll be able to change your assignment?
00:03:39: I know but i'm gonna try.
00:03:41: People accept it.
00:03:42: Whereas If I said My goal was next week To Change Education System And even the word goal, people instantly want to hear steps.
00:03:49: Yeah right and I don't know the steps of it's education system.
00:03:52: i have taken a step each day towards trying To make it happen yeah in my case by building an alternative to The Education System.
00:03:59: that's My first Step.
00:04:00: okay but I think That you Know People are more forgiving?
00:04:03: And You Are More Forgiving to Yourself When You'd Frame It as A dream.
00:04:07: and it Can Be A lot More lofty it can be a Lot More Crazy and and it Allows You Room to like Express the craziest Thing You Think You Could Ever do.
00:04:15: Whoever's a goal makes it far more practical.
00:04:18: I
00:04:19: feel like its such a refreshing approach because if i think of my grandma, even some of my friends and you express something audacious that you really want to achieve there, jeez mate!
00:04:33: You're just dreaming.
00:04:34: come on yeah... Where
00:04:38: do we went wrong?
00:04:39: To think dreams are always out-of reach.
00:04:42: I think when we're young, I've got an eight year old.
00:04:44: And no you have an eight and ten-year-old as well?
00:04:47: I think anyone listening has kids will understand this... ...and those that don't perhaps learn something from those who have kids which is like We want the best for our children.
00:04:55: Okay so sometimes when we hear Our children saying things That we think are really difficult to achieve We don't want them to be disappointed.. ..And we don't wanna waste time.
00:05:04: So i think that we accidentally kill dreams quite quickly.
00:05:08: So I met recently a launcher kid's book.
00:05:12: I'm part of the marketing for The Kids Book, as i went and saw Headmasters in schools.
00:05:16: And then they asked him what's going on his life?
00:05:25: He told me about this nine-year old son who wants to be a pro footballer... ...and he said being honest with you Simon.. ..I don't think that he is going to become a professional footballer!
00:05:37: So how do you
00:05:39: know?!
00:05:40: It's like, well I'm just scared.
00:05:42: I'd tell him you better have an academic back-up
00:05:44: plan.".
00:05:44: And I'm like... You love Him and your saying that because you love Him.
00:05:49: but the fact that you believe in a fact make it true?
00:05:54: Why don't you just believe its possible for His dream to happen and let Him find out for Himself?
00:05:59: why restrict Him now?
00:06:00: yes maybe could say having an academic backup.
00:06:03: Well again Your brilliant teacher who makes learning fun.
00:06:05: he doesn't need one or other thing.
00:06:08: That is where we go wrong.
00:06:09: We try to make things so binary.
00:06:11: You can go be an artist, a painter or maybe you should be serious and get a degree in.
00:06:16: Go Get A Job So that you could pay the mortgage.
00:06:18: Why can't you do both?
00:06:20: And more importantly I think if your are a painter then love it and you're allowed follow-up path.
00:06:25: Your more likely making money because you can follow through Whereas your forced down line of going to university getting job but might not follow through Because It wasn't what u want.
00:06:36: Well, it feels like work.
00:06:37: then right if you're following someone else's path.
00:06:40: If your feeling someone someone else is dream essentially just because you mentioned that What in?
00:06:46: Your opinion is wrong with the education system.
00:06:49: a lot of things are wrong to be education system and I could spend a whole podcast.
00:06:54: Yeah Let's do this short version.
00:06:55: I'm trying.
00:06:55: well i'd
00:06:56: like To frame It as Like A Lot People Tell me how You Gonna fix it.
00:07:00: I actually Think The very Very Simple Fix Is Everybody Stop Asking What we ask kids today, which is what will you do when you grow up?
00:07:11: Yeah.
00:07:12: Stop asking that question because that question and I've seen it asked of my eight year old he panics.
00:07:19: He wants to say something to make the adult happy.
00:07:21: So what does he say?
00:07:22: i want to be a doctor i wanna Be a lawyer And then i can be proud on my son.
00:07:27: look he wants To be a lawyer.
00:07:27: yeah, and i think kids don't know what That means.
00:07:31: They don't.
00:07:32: First of all, I'm not even sure that they say twenty years from now when he could be a lawyer if AI is going to do it anyway.
00:07:38: so without getting your audience hating me but like i think lawyers are gonna replace by A.I.. I DO THINK ROBOTICS AND AI ARE GOING TO BE DOCTORS.
00:07:46: So the point I am making stop asking this question.
00:07:50: Don“t ask people what will they do with their growth?
00:07:52: It traps minds into singular track.
00:07:55: instead In the education system and in general, we ask what problem would you like to solve?
00:08:01: Now this opens up minds.
00:08:03: To think about the world on how he can fix it What we could do to make them a better place.
00:08:08: And I know people that focus on a particular problem Like i've got friends who's focusing on trying to remove plastic from water.
00:08:15: So first thing they decided is start a water company That doesn't have plastic bottled water And then later in his studying for a PhD, maybe he'll create an invention that will take all the plastic out of water.
00:08:31: But there's many different careers and many things you can do to solve problem.
00:08:34: that matters to you right?
00:08:36: So I think it opens up minds at least when they don't know their dream young age not everyone does.
00:08:42: Then they could look at world and see what is bothering them.
00:08:45: how might go about fixing those problems as opposed being put on track become certain thing society says should come.
00:08:52: Let's get back to that in a second, but I do want to finish up on the goal topic because of course being an athlete you know my listeners and lot people are athletes.
00:09:00: And The Goal i think is goals setting as a crucial part of sports right?
00:09:05: Exactly like you say A Goal sort has time line attached for it.
00:09:09: For me saying was always a dream plus plan equals a goal Which takes the romance out.
00:09:16: It kind of takes the infiniteness But makes it achievable in that kind of sense.
00:09:24: Where do you think you fit into people's dreams?
00:09:30: Because I look at it, That your very much the enabler.
00:09:33: You enable people to have their dreams.
00:09:35: Do sometimes see yourself as a plan.
00:09:38: Well i think...I try In what I do To remove excuses which is ironic because if anyone was listening to you and me talk before we started this podcast, I was making all these excuses as to why i'm not running enough.
00:09:52: So we'll have them...I am no different!
00:09:55: ...I think that life gets in the way..you don't have enough money.... You dont' have the knowledge..... ..I THINK these are ALL FAIR EXCUSES but I actually see my role is to give people all of things they say they need.
00:10:08: and now what?
00:10:09: And I've done it many times- I've given people THE KNOWLEDGE THEY NEED, I've GIVEN THEM THE MONEY THEY NEAD and at some point they just stop saying they can't do IT.
00:10:15: They can.
00:10:16: and I think my job is to actually make sure people have everything they need with be it capital, Be a network.
00:10:22: Be the knowledge...they have It.
00:10:24: now what?
00:10:25: And i think that's really interesting thing.
00:10:27: like for me There's no excuse not go running when I think about it..I Actually Have No Excuses.
00:10:31: you know I Think My Excused.
00:10:32: as I wake up in The Morning I Like To have A hug With My son so I don't get Up early and Go For a run.
00:10:36: well I could do both I Can go for a Run before he Wakes Up or When He Comes Up when he gets up I can Get-It's Just excuses isn't?
00:10:41: Yeah?
00:10:41: So I think a lot of us Do make those excuses.
00:10:44: So my job is to make sure people have got everything they need.
00:10:46: Yeah, so they no longer have the excuse other than they just simply can't do it.
00:10:50: and that happens
00:10:53: Just randomly.
00:10:54: if I could be the advisor teach your kid how to ride a bike you Can go running together?
00:10:58: You know thank you.
00:11:00: yeah good tip all right already.
00:11:02: action now.
00:11:02: He's just learned to write about although i'm on a bike with him because he goes quite fast.
00:11:07: If I had run as far as his biking It's a bad start.
00:11:11: My voice might sound young until listening.
00:11:13: Fifty-two years old, I might kill over.
00:11:16: Yeah But you've done a lot of things in those fifty two years and i think for For many people that rags to reach your story.
00:11:24: where?
00:11:24: You come from at fifteen being kicked out home And really building your own way.
00:11:31: what really struck me is the Difference between a want and need.
00:11:39: You started on this journey.
00:11:40: you became who you are because Of A Need.
00:11:44: How do we Differentiate the two?
00:11:47: and how can we turn a want into a need?
00:11:49: Yeah, no one makes it.
00:11:50: none of your listeners will make It actually if it's just something you want Because everybody just wants it.
00:11:55: Everybody wants to be rich everyone wants to fit Everyone wants a six-pack.
00:11:58: right I think you need to need it.
00:12:01: And so um i've been happily married now for twenty four years.
00:12:06: Before I was married and I was dating.
00:12:10: If I were dating someone I'd lose my six pack And then I broke up within a short period of time, my six-pack will be back.
00:12:18: Right?
00:12:18: So in other words, I needed it and not just wanted it right.
00:12:22: so...I think there's lots of psychology around this that people could apply.
00:12:28: So i always say to people..i met someone on the street a minute ago who came out with me saying they love what you do or wash your dream.
00:12:35: They're like oh!
00:12:36: I want start movement to help women in tech.
00:12:39: Why are you doing it?
00:12:41: She was like well I've got job and I've got a comfortable life.
00:12:45: And so, you know...I'm just doing on the side but it's not really
00:12:48: working.".
00:12:48: Yeah!
00:12:49: I'm like quit the job.
00:12:52: if you don't have that income for that job then you'll have to do it won't you?
00:12:56: That is something i learnt at fifteen years old.
00:12:58: You know..i was homeless about eight weeks when i was fifteen And I tried to get money from social services, which you know a lot of your listeners are Germans.
00:13:07: You've got the social system here too?
00:13:09: Yeah!
00:13:09: Now i was kind of told that in school they tell you... ...you can get job and if you cant' get a job don't worry there's.. ..a social system will help with rent & food
00:13:16: right?!
00:13:17: They're only two things I taught at school.... ....and I tried them both when I left school.
00:13:20: I tryed to get a Job but couldn't.
00:13:22: one then went to Social Services and wouldn't helped me.
00:13:25: So I didn't actually have choice but become an entrepreneur Because I had to create a job for myself.
00:13:30: I had no choice, i didn't want to be an entrepreneur... ...I wanted to get a job!
00:13:33: Yeah.. ..I wanted nice easy life ideally at big brand Right?
00:13:37: And then I thought well okay I can't do the job.
00:13:40: I got social services and they told me you know You look fine your fifteen year old strapping young man.
00:13:46: What's wrong with you?
00:13:47: we've people who have kids that don't go to sleep tonight.
00:13:50: Your very low on priority list and I accepted it.
00:13:54: That felt fair in time To Be Honest.
00:13:56: So Then I realised No one was coming to save me and so this is it.
00:14:02: Yeah, I can feel sorry for myself roll over and die yeah or i Can fight?
00:14:08: And i decided to fight.
00:14:10: and i think that When i started the business if my first business Was a gardening company i didn't really Think It wouldn't work.
00:14:21: It was literally no choice but to work.
00:14:23: So in other words, I knock on doors asking if i can be someone's gardener until Someone says yes because I really don't have a choice.
00:14:30: But for someone to say Yes whereas when you've got a Choice is sometimes called the middle-class trap people Can just take it easy?
00:14:37: If they knocked On ten doors and They all Say No this I tried but he didn't Work.
00:14:41: yeah I did try though know You Didn't Try Because There's Another five Hundred Doors you Could Have Knocked on That Weekend.
00:14:48: So I just met someone again who told me they wanted to open up a business and then need ten thousand euros.
00:14:52: They were asking if i'll give it them, but he won't help you!
00:14:57: You can go start your business this weekend.
00:14:59: let's say for example cleaning cars.
00:15:01: we're in one of the most wealthiest cities in Germany.
00:15:04: people will pay you clean their car.
00:15:06: you spend the next five weekends cleaning cars fully focused on that money by five weeks from now And also learn how do work
00:15:16: because you
00:15:17: have to do the work.
00:15:18: No one got fit not doing their work, did they?
00:15:20: No definitely not and that's a thing.
00:15:21: if your given that money it is not as precious for you.
00:15:24: You're not going to stretch every cent To cover road holes Potholes.
00:15:29: but I do think or wonder now in this next phase of life you no longer have that need at least from outside looking into your needs are met.
00:15:44: You can choose whatever one you have in life and that's where I'm trying to get.
00:15:48: This is a really
00:15:49: interesting thing, touching on here.
00:15:51: so... And this will sound very privileged if the way your explaining it as well.
00:15:56: i think there something important people need learn hear?
00:16:00: I discovered something really fascinating once got rich!
00:16:07: The thing.. I wish I'd discover when was poor.
00:16:13: It took me getting rich to discover something that if I'd known when i was poor would have made me rich.
00:16:19: okay
00:16:20: and it's simply this.
00:16:24: When I got rich, I actually had...I sold my company a company called Fluid to PWC- I had loads of other businesses I invested in.. I sold everything!
00:16:32: And I basically sat on this pile of cash and I was living in Hong Kong at the time and decided with my wife To move back to England by really lovely house.
00:16:42: By brand new car Porsche drove off the Mayfork court and then I sat in that house with my Porsche outside of front, with piles of cash on a bank.
00:16:51: And i thought That's it!
00:16:52: I've made it The end of the road Retirement.
00:16:55: You know that thing everyone gets told is the goal?
00:16:57: Yeah Honestly for the first six months Amazing Absolutely amazing.
00:17:03: It's the first time I never had to worry about money, I was buying stuff organic food wasn't thinking twice... I was filling up for a car.
00:17:09: no problem at all wait.. I just got actually the fittest.
00:17:12: i've ever been so many things like and I was happy.
00:17:18: but it turns out I wasn't satisfied.
00:17:22: I didn't have a point to my life right.
00:17:24: there was no meaning to it.
00:17:27: And well then what?
00:17:28: I started finding meaning and my first feeling of meaning was, when he was born I would walk him around to help him fall asleep.
00:17:41: And that's what actually started me feel a little happier again because i've got something to do right?
00:17:46: I'm looking after another human.
00:17:48: And then I started helping people just randomly that I met, they were stuck in their businesses and I didn't need to ask them for any money.
00:17:55: So it wasn't a negotiation and I'll help you if you pay me a
00:17:57: fee."I
00:17:58: would just help them,".
00:17:59: They always wondered what the catch was? They always wonder why i was helping
00:18:02: him?"And
00:18:03: Then I said someone one day when there are like Why Are You Helping Me?
00:18:05: What's The Catch?
00:18:06: I'm Like Why Does It Have To Always Be A Catch?
00:18:08: But Here Is The Catch.
00:18:10: I Sleep Better At Night When I Help Someone I Just Feel Happier.
00:18:15: And so for the first time in my life, I didn't have to do it as a give and take mechanism.
00:18:19: I didn' t have to get something
00:18:20: back.".
00:18:21: And I realized what makes me happy?
00:18:23: Every single person listening is exactly the same.
00:18:26: What make us happiest?
00:18:26: helping each other... It really is!
00:18:29: So we've got help ourselves to help someone.
00:18:33: You can't be an estate where you cant feed yourself or live.
00:18:39: You gotta have your own bucket somewhat filled But I think there was a limit.
00:18:43: You don't need to overfill your bucket.
00:18:45: and so, what actually makes us happy?
00:18:47: We used to live in tribes often of five hundred people And the reason we survived for long.
00:18:51: this money wasn't invented Money's only new invention.
00:18:54: Yeah Money didn't exist.
00:18:55: That tribe made us happy.
00:18:57: If someone that tribe were suffering The whole tribe would use their skill set To help them be better.
00:19:03: Whatever it meant if they tent fell down Come stay at my tent.
00:19:06: Get the tent fixed tomorrow.
00:19:07: Don't worry you won't be homeless.
00:19:09: Right, there's no such thing as homelessness.
00:19:11: That's been created in modern age thanks to money.
00:19:13: Yeah right.
00:19:14: so I know now something i wish i'd known when i was poor that if i take five minutes out of my day To just help someone without any expectation for anything back i'll sleep better at night.
00:19:25: Now i have whoop them on my partner.
00:19:27: So a bit of a sponsor plug.
00:19:29: but i love whoop and that's why they sponsored me?
00:19:31: I love it.
00:19:32: And the thing is this product When I'm helping someone, I can directly correlate how good I sleep.
00:19:41: And there are some days when i cant help people because im busy and actually see my sleep score drops Because it's...Oxytocin is released when we help.
00:19:50: a fellow human cause were tribal!
00:19:51: I don't know what the equivalent to Tribalism would be.
00:19:54: Moneyism Capitalism.
00:19:57: This an invented model.
00:19:58: And sure, buying things and having food on the plate in a place to sleep at an ice car.
00:20:03: These things will make you happy.
00:20:04: they just won't satisfy You?
00:20:07: That's what I've learned.
00:20:08: wish everybody understood.
00:20:09: Just take five minutes to help someone today.
00:20:10: see why me
00:20:11: yep.
00:20:12: The amazing thing is that you've turned helping people into our business.
00:20:16: yeah
00:20:17: Yeah mean it employs somewhere around fifty People.
00:20:20: yeah just two fifty-two people full time right now.
00:20:22: there
00:20:22: ya go.
00:20:23: i mean thats who your essentially Helping with a job with the purpose, and I think i will call it fulfillment in some kind of way.
00:20:33: Do you think that more businesses need to look at that kind of wholesome model?
00:20:39: That you come step away from profits and really becomes about actually building something greater?
00:20:48: I think if you want successful business... The future!
00:20:54: I'm gonna make someone want to go for a wee here and there.
00:20:58: Feel free to go full week folks, I'll wait for you!
00:21:00: Um...I genuinely think that if you wanna build successful business today the way things are so transparent now The way the world has so many problems not being addressed That If You Build A Business That Has A Purpose A Couple Of Exciting Things Happen One People Want To Work For You.
00:21:18: So i have team of people- I don't manage people ,i managed purpose.
00:21:23: Everybody in my Team.
00:21:23: Im Not Tracking What They're Doing Asking when they are going to achieve targets.
00:21:28: They're smashing right through them all the time because they believe in the same thing that I believe, and education system needs reform.
00:21:34: it needs to be fixed.
00:21:35: And so i've hired around purpose not even around talent Because people will learn things they need to learn if they care about the problem their solving Right?
00:21:44: So I think just from a pure selfish Be successful business point of view have a mission will help your business being more successful.
00:21:52: I also think and i was once told by someone very well known in america that has a name drop them but.
00:21:57: Fifty percent of everybody you know will vote blue fifty percent everyone will vote red yeah, and blu will say no.
00:22:04: look after yourself and read we'll see.
00:22:06: You need to look after everybody else from the social so social side or capitalistic side?
00:22:13: The truth is though if u wanna be happy If you are getting up every day just fill your own pocket.
00:22:20: Most people are not happy doing that.
00:22:23: You want to wake up every day and work with the people you love, to what if?
00:22:26: Wake-up everyday feeling like your making a difference in the world because they'll help me follow through which ironically means therefore Your business will be more financially successful.
00:22:33: Yeah But it's a motivation To go and do it right now.
00:22:37: mean now today I don't need to look yeah but i think couple of things.
00:22:41: I want my son to Be proud on Me.
00:22:43: And kids Don't Do What you say.
00:22:44: They do what you do.
00:22:46: so If I'm sitting around all Day Talking About My Golf hand cap coming down, that's what he'll grow up like.
00:22:53: He will grow just being very selfish right and it is not fulfilling life?
00:22:58: Well I wonder about that a little bit because of
00:23:00: course sports... You mean playing golf today!
00:23:01: No
00:23:02: no but sport in itself has super egoistical pursuit.
00:23:05: you yourself are going after your goal yet i firmly believe that because of this you're able to share community a very honest kind of way amongst athletes, especially in the endurance world.
00:23:22: I mean let's look aside you know from all the big federations and these kinds things but i do think that it gives people more time to react in life in general.
00:23:31: so i do thing.
00:23:32: there is that purpose even though its actually very egoistical.
00:23:36: perhaps
00:23:37: should have picked on golf.
00:23:38: maybe the difference is my example.
00:23:40: im trying highlight.
00:23:41: i didn't had gold in golf.
00:23:44: I was just, when i didn't work for a while.
00:23:47: I felt like i wasn't helping anybody even myself!
00:23:50: I wasn't trying to be an excellent golfer you know?
00:23:53: I think that middle-class trap where if maybe If had said back then and known in this point your making well im gonna the best golfer I can possibly beat do golf events and raise money for charities.
00:24:05: And you know, I actually think then it starts to have meaning.
00:24:08: I'm talking about using golf as a metaphor was just...I was doing nothing of purpose!
00:24:12: I wasn't being a supreme athlete or pushing myself?
00:24:16: Or helping the
00:24:17: world?!
00:24:17: I was just
00:24:18: consuming!!
00:24:20: It's not natural for humans.
00:24:21: just consume.
00:24:22: The analogy that i always use is like, You know there are fridges in invention which cause some problems because That's my community.
00:24:29: on TikTok giving a give away everyone listening like what the hell is that noise?
00:24:32: I'm live on tiktok right now.
00:24:34: Um, I think that there is a real need for us to focus in-on.
00:24:40: Why are we here?
00:24:41: yeah
00:24:42: and make a mark while We're here?
00:24:44: mm-hmm And actually do love sports and you know Olympics Is one of my favorite things to watch because i think it shows stories Of people who were told they couldn't Do It.
00:24:54: Who did?
00:24:55: And I think nearly everybody who I've ever interviewed, he's won a gold medal.
00:24:59: The thing that the fed afraid of seen as common is they were not the best at what they did in their beginning and so they persevered.
00:25:09: Yeah!
00:25:10: What i love about it because its same with business...I am now the most followed business influencer in the UK ahead Richard Branson.
00:25:18: people are really admire..i'm the most follow.
00:25:21: I come from a small town in England called St Nierce, where was told that could be hairdresser or working the factory.
00:25:29: The Nissan Factory and that town And genuinely... ...I was below average student So..the fact i have risen up to like make a fortune build businesses they love hire people help people ..and managed achieve this kind of.
00:25:46: one of these benchmark items show im market leader.
00:25:49: It blows my mind, I'm below average.
00:25:54: And that's what you can do if put your mind to it.
00:25:57: and thats why i love sport because i see people who are told they're not very good at running whatever that means.
00:26:04: You know when was told by the way in school there will never be a triathlete runner.
00:26:13: but listen to them.
00:26:14: I accidentally, and we all do when... We accidently sometimes listen to our peers.
00:26:20: Someone would say you're probably not good enough to do this but you know?
00:26:25: You can try i guess!
00:26:27: And sometimes if you respect the person that said it teacher for example It completely changes the course of your life.
00:26:33: I would agree strongly because if you see a lot of athletes going out, especially in my community of triathletes and people qualifying for Hawaii.
00:26:41: And it's the three point eight K swim one hundred eighty k bike on a marathon off the back of it an You know normal person is just like are you crazy?
00:26:47: Do not have anything else in your life.
00:26:49: It's just like no its true form of achievement.
00:26:53: so What then?
00:26:55: i mean?
00:26:56: it starts off coming Back to The Needs & Wants.
00:27:00: You want to do something.
00:27:01: Right now, you want to help people even though as you said... ...you don't need to.
00:27:06: it gives your purpose.
00:27:07: but what would you say?
00:27:10: What tactics could people use...?
00:27:12: To really find their pain point that they're trying to solve?
00:27:18: What I have seen with the over weight and unhealthy who get fit.
00:27:23: When you dig into the story, most people what happens is they get told.
00:27:26: They're going to get diabetes if I don't make a change or they are gonna die of a heart attack that doesn't make any changes.
00:27:32: so A lot of people have to have physical moments before making some changes right?
00:27:37: If your doctor tells anyone listening now just imagine your doctor has told You!
00:27:41: If you do not run tomorrow then you will be getting Diabetes The Day After.
00:27:46: You Will Not Just Want To Run Tomorrow Your Need to Run Tomorrow.
00:27:49: You Will Find Time.
00:27:51: Do It Yeah, and I think so.
00:27:53: a lot of it is like mental state.
00:27:55: people have to make that need real And one way the do-it for example.
00:27:59: what i'm doing now?
00:28:01: I knew.
00:28:02: I would have to use social media To reach people direct and cut out the school system.
00:28:07: go direct to people in educate them where they are.
00:28:10: yeah tiktok instagram youtube.
00:28:12: Now When I first went on social media, I had one view.
00:28:15: Five views.
00:28:16: but i told myself if I don't do this those five people that did you won't get the knowledge they need their life will be harder Their electricity will click off tonight and there'll be freezing cold sleeping in who knows where right?
00:28:30: Yeah So I-I told myself that!
00:28:33: I Don't want to make a video today.
00:28:34: I'm embarrassed But it's not about me It's about the impact that I make.
00:28:40: and if i don't put That video up, And Don't help those five people that view.
00:28:43: That Video Then I am leaving Five People in The Dark In A freezing Cold Potentially Without The Food They Need Now.
00:28:50: Is it Really Truly?
00:28:51: That Extreme?
00:28:52: No Probably not but I told Myself it is and That'S why I've Made a Video Every Single Day for the last Six Years without Fail no Excuses
00:29:02: Just Attaching Deeper Purpose.
00:29:03: Exactly I sometimes say to people when they tell me I can't make it happen.
00:29:07: If you don't, someone
00:29:08: dies.".
00:29:09: They're like why would somebody die?
00:29:12: You have to believe that because its not about you and if your making is very easy then excuse yourself.
00:29:16: That's what i mean.
00:29:17: I think psychology has to be... And thats the purpose matters as well.
00:29:21: cause if we actually make this true a nurse goes to work every day.
00:29:24: their low pay or long hours go to work but sometimes in pain they may even die.
00:29:32: so a nurse does too much for them And I think that's wrong, by the way.
00:29:37: I think nurses should be paid more but The point i'm getting to is like they go They do it!They Do the hard thing because they know if they don't someone suffers.
00:29:44: Yeah
00:29:45: and you have To try make That true.
00:29:47: to motivate.
00:29:47: You sometimes Take your want or Make It in need?
00:29:52: You've had Thousands Probably tens of thousands Of people pitch Your ideas In a similar vein.
00:29:59: I've seen thousands of athletes Tell me... ...they wanna Be Olympic champion.. ..the next world champion.
00:30:06: In your view, when you first meet someone what gives you the instinct whether a real dream is going to turn into reality or not?
00:30:17: They were already doing it.
00:30:20: So when I get a pitch for business because i invest in lot of companies The first thing that often go and do is look on activity side.
00:30:28: So they're like, I love this business.
00:30:29: It's...I'm gonna make it work!
00:30:31: You know?
00:30:31: Its going to be so great and click on their website And then go click on there.
00:30:35: social media handle.
00:30:36: They haven't done a post in the month.
00:30:38: If you love it that much won't.
00:30:40: we have not tell world about it Even if its just story posts or one word Go-go-go People.
00:30:49: actions speak louder than words.
00:30:51: Most of people are actually running through pain already.
00:30:58: Right, they're kind of taking action.
00:31:00: Yeah Now there are people that have legitimate reasons why they've not started.
00:31:03: this person this morning I mentioned already They needed ten thousand dollars.
00:31:06: That's their barrier in the head?
00:31:08: I can't do this until we get ten thousand Dollars yeah But what they hopefully and now doing is figuring out how to make the Ten Thousand Dollars Not waiting for someone shark tankled dragons then or some Some miracle for money To be given to you by Simon script.
00:31:23: My audience a now again agreeing with me And I think people need to like see the steps as perhaps smaller than they think there are.
00:31:32: So everyone's waiting, and first step is... ...I get ten thousand dollars from a dragon or an investor because what TV programs?
00:31:40: that's the only ones we have out there right?
00:31:41: Someone's gonna give you money.
00:31:42: Where's the program showing the person who went and cleaned five thousand cars before They had the money.
00:31:47: go build Airbnb.
00:31:49: Everyone just hearing about AirBnb being worth twenty two billion but no one understanding The things that they did To get to Airbnb.
00:31:56: They were selling cereal boxes at conventions.
00:31:59: Yeah, right there was.
00:32:00: they're selling boxes of food At events.
00:32:03: yeah to pay for Airbnb But all everyone ever thinks is that it somehow got lucky with an investor and they made it happen.
00:32:09: No The steps are smaller than people think And ironically People are reluctant.
00:32:15: take the small steps.
00:32:17: Just want a big lucky break.
00:32:18: Give me ten grand
00:32:19: Always Which is interesting because in sports It's so obvious If you don't do your daily training, You can watch yourself fit on Instagram.
00:32:29: You could watch all the influence of videos in the world!
00:32:32: You can go and track your sleep... ...you can do all these things.
00:32:36: if you didn't do the basics There's no way that you'll get to it.
00:32:39: Why think we're always looking for a short cut?
00:32:44: This thing isn't there?
00:32:45: That this is true?
00:32:48: actually If you are lazy It really good business.
00:32:52: The reason you'll find the way to get it done quicker.
00:32:57: Okay,
00:32:58: so I think Bill Gates said it recently but people have said for a hundred years.
00:33:03: if you look at quotes... The laziest people actually are really good in business because they're finding their own ways of doing things and want them to be lazy.
00:33:11: So one reason why i like being an entrepreneur is that i could be lazy.
00:33:15: So I could take today off, I can cancel this podcast with you and just sit by the pool.
00:33:20: And I like that idea because i'm actually lazy.
00:33:23: but I liked the idea That don't have to cause I like what do.
00:33:25: yeah?
00:33:25: Yeah!
00:33:26: You know...I always find sports & business has so many parallels But also wonder where their tension difference is.
00:33:33: Because for example..i am not acting on my exercise personal exercise dreams.
00:33:40: And why it's that?
00:33:42: I try compare Like you said off before we started recording, just start doing it.
00:33:48: Just take twenty minutes and do it right?
00:33:50: It's so true in business as well.
00:33:51: You just have to start telling people that they're going to be able to do the business Drawing a logo out asking someone if he had the product would they buy it?
00:34:00: None of this has cost him any money But some many don't do those things.
00:34:03: So why am I not doing it ?
00:34:08: I dont want assume but i can tell for me my process is striving to perfectionism.
00:34:17: I came from the highest laurels of sport, won everything.
00:34:21: whatever i do next has to be polished and perfect for the
00:34:24: get-go.".
00:34:25: And for twelve months!
00:34:26: I was just yappyapyap talking with friends.
00:34:29: you know could I?
00:34:30: really?
00:34:30: it's only the trusted few circle friends...and..I do think there is a fear or failure for sure but I also think perfectionism holds back alot people.
00:34:41: what d'you
00:34:43: thing?
00:34:45: From being really honest about myself.
00:34:48: I have a what?
00:34:50: I'm overweight.
00:34:52: I'm over weight by that ten kilos and when i go running which, I do actually run once or twice a week three four five kilos I click kilometers.
00:35:00: My knee hurts because ima look bit overweight.
00:35:03: And then I love my work.
00:35:05: so Im very busy with work and I don't Have time to see a physio again.
00:35:09: times are funny thing but like..I dont make the Time To Go To A Physio And so there's just these little niggling things that stop you.
00:35:18: So I find it really interesting because i'm so driven around business, but... ...I wonder if its hard to do more than one thing at once?
00:35:25: Like work for me is my exercise!
00:35:28: By the way- I walk about forty thousand to fifty thousand steps a day in my job.. ..so im doing a marathon walking like across the whole of cities.
00:35:38: I go to asking people their dreams.
00:35:41: So Im not unfit I don't know what the discipline piece that's missing from me on the exercise side is.
00:35:49: When i wasn't working,I was a fitter as ever been.
00:35:51: yeah so thats the other side of made exercise my full time focus
00:35:55: and you've proven to yourself in several occasions.
00:35:57: then it can get your six pack back no time.
00:35:59: if my wife left me ,i would have my six pack
00:36:01: not suggesting that at all.
00:36:03: but sometimes i said to her leave me which didn't love u much.
00:36:07: She's a really good cook, by the way.
00:36:08: And so she makes them most amazing carrot cake.
00:36:11: Okay and when she makes it is rude not to eat It I think my marriage is better.
00:36:14: while they eat her carrot cake which i don't know Is true but um.
00:36:18: But no I find it fascinating because like I don't want To be a hypocrite whenever one up with sometimes what?
00:36:21: I'm talking about life.
00:36:22: I sound Like A guru in business.
00:36:24: I am actually thinking relationships are figured at all out too When he comes to fitness and health and well-being.
00:36:31: I should probably have a business partnership with you, because i think in business.
00:36:33: I'm really good at fitness and not but they are connected so it frustrates me.
00:36:37: well the thing what?
00:36:38: I am always conscious of is that businesses function and businesses are optimized And So all the processes around us.
00:36:46: But we need to continue to function as people.
00:36:49: And so I think looking after yourself is just an investment in your future businesses because eventually if you're knee gets bad enough that You can't walk.
00:36:57: Your forty or fifty thousand steps through London, or wherever you are in the world Then all of a sudden now you
00:37:04: start to motivate me.
00:37:05: Are you saying?
00:37:05: If i don't run a marathon then i won't be able To do what i love.
00:37:11: That's
00:37:12: how you started.
00:37:12: it was starting to get to Me.
00:37:13: yeah
00:37:14: and i think you can Get to your community too.
00:37:16: you know sharing sharing the idea of a marathon.
00:37:20: You're tapping on something now.
00:37:21: this is interesting for me, sorry guys This is our podcast all about Me For Me so feel free to leave.
00:37:26: no don't okay into trouble But I think we all probably struggle with it.
00:37:31: So there'll be people listening that are really good in health and fitness side but not On The Business Side That People Are Really Good At The Business But Not The Health And Fitness Side and bridging It's Quite Interesting i Think In The Business Community.
00:37:40: The Thing I've Been Really Obsessed With Is One Is Yes Motivating People?
00:37:46: I had people watch my video and they're like, okay.
00:37:49: I'm going to do
00:37:49: it.".
00:37:49: And then they don't do it.
00:37:50: so what we have worked on?
00:37:51: We have programs with accelerators.
00:37:53: We have communities that we have funding mechanisms.
00:37:56: So there's a whole thing to help People Do It.
00:38:00: yeah, and They're not alone doing it as we have a platform called Help Bank We Have A Whole Series of Programs That Help People.
00:38:07: i actually Think in Fitness Is Something Missing.
00:38:09: so now i feel motivated by the way i'm Like.
00:38:11: no No i really want To Keep Doing What i'm Doing And so, but now you know I'm a little bit overweight.
00:38:16: How do i get the diet right?
00:38:17: Uh my knee is hurting.
00:38:19: how should probably go to a physio?
00:38:20: Right?
00:38:21: um what-what?
00:38:22: What do I do about my shoes?
00:38:23: What are the right shoes?
00:38:25: where should I run?
00:38:25: ?I run on a treadmill right Now by the way because in England it's always raining.
00:38:29: yeah So I tend too great
00:38:30: place to start.
00:38:30: But like Where Do I Go?
00:38:33: I actually don't Know if there's A Place On The Internet For Business.
00:38:37: There Is A Place.
00:38:38: I built A Place Yeah Because There Wasn'T One Right.
00:38:41: The only places on the internet for business was with scammy courses or like Y Combinator, which you had to be a next Airbnb.
00:38:49: so and you know five thousand people apply for Y Combonator then they bring eight people in.
00:38:54: what about all that?
00:38:55: So I'm busy.
00:38:56: sign knew the gap And i have filled it.
00:38:58: Mm-hmm.
00:38:58: I've fielded.
00:38:59: replace That.
00:38:59: People can go in sports.
00:39:02: In sports You get plenty of run clubs.
00:39:05: I think the key To everything as you just said is community.
00:39:08: plenty of clubs, wherever they are.
00:39:10: Of course nowadays because of social media there is so much more that everybody just goes out and does their own thing.
00:39:17: but I think that's very much the trend that's coming in.
00:39:20: And uh... That would be my recommendation too
00:39:22: Even for me.
00:39:22: There was a run club.
00:39:23: i actually sponsored one.
00:39:25: It's called Dream & Run In London Right?
00:39:27: Okay But They're running tenk hey!
00:39:31: And Im scared to go Because im like.
00:39:33: well Ill Be Embarrassed Will make it round.
00:39:36: You know Like..I didn't Go To My Own Run Club
00:39:40: But you're embarrassed.
00:39:41: You've made it in from the world up, you started on your very own.
00:39:47: What's there to fear?
00:39:50: Yeah No this is therapy.
00:39:52: thankyou I was gonna get a therapy session today.
00:39:56: Sorry audience This is all of me.
00:39:57: I did say no hope you guys are getting something from.
00:39:59: if not then just click off.
00:40:02: Well that thing now i do wonder exactly because this my point like
00:40:07: how
00:40:07: Do we learn to run towards our fear?
00:40:10: How do we learn To actually apply ourselves.
00:40:14: I think community is key, i agree with you and will make an effort to connect to a community And sometimes we need be told push for out fear.
00:40:22: You're right!
00:40:24: In my own head Im saying im being open about it because I find this stuff quite hard to talk about Because I like the thing that Im bit of an achiever.
00:40:34: You know, I think people who can't pay their bills tonight.
00:40:38: I really want to help them pay the bills tonight and feel really motivated to help people do that.
00:40:42: And fitness and well-being is only area in my life where i am not a high performer
00:40:48: But it brings you same standard That we always have these lofty dreams but its great just go out.
00:41:01: I did see
00:41:04: a quote recently.
00:41:07: It was about like, and trying to remember the name of that person but basically they had a stroke.
00:41:22: I'll make a commitment on this podcast to run five KG every week for the next three or four weeks.
00:41:40: And if I don't, then I will donate large sum of money to charity for your
00:41:44: choice.".
00:41:45: That's amazing!
00:41:46: Yeah let's do it.
00:41:47: Let's do what?
00:41:48: The shake on it.
00:41:48: All right deal.
00:41:50: thank God we didn't say the amount.
00:41:52: Yeah, absolutely.
00:41:54: Let's do it!
00:41:55: I'll give five thousand euros to a charity of your choice if i don't log in for the next four weeks with a five k run each week.
00:42:01: I think accountability is really powerful actually.
00:42:03: Accountability to yourself but sometimes you need external... No one can make on their own by the way In business?
00:42:08: I haven't made it on my own yeah..I have only made because I've had help and I think fitness well-being has a similar issue.
00:42:14: You can't deal on your own.
00:42:15: It's much easier go to the gym with someone.
00:42:20: This was also what found interesting because I'm exactly like you, I am driven.
00:42:24: And really want to be in successful and want to strive for these
00:42:29: things.".
00:42:31: My maths teacher handed me a paper or test... ...and he looked at me said,"You know Jan not everybody can be a pilot.
00:42:40: someone needs to sweep the runway".
00:42:42: Right!
00:42:44: You're very much on this high achieving train right?
00:42:48: Do we have room for everyone Chase their dreams.
00:42:55: I don't think everyone has to be a high achiever.
00:42:56: Yeah, that's just the standard I set for myself in business because i've got compound knowledge.
00:43:04: So frankly?
00:43:04: I feel like I should be a higher achiever.
00:43:09: I Think that and becoming a High Achiever is A step-by-step thing And I enjoy being The best That I can Be of what I do.
00:43:19: I Don't really want To be mediocre.
00:43:23: There's a very big difference between my personal ambition and the message I'm trying to get out there in the world.
00:43:31: The most important thing is that people have control over their day, they enjoy it.
00:43:36: And so...I've said this at the beginning of my book If i meet someone who's happy.. ..i leave them alone!
00:43:43: I met one guy the other day Who was delivery driver for supermarket.
00:43:48: I asked him what his dream.
00:43:49: he says He enjoys his job.
00:43:52: Win!
00:43:53: I have no issue with that at all.
00:43:55: It's the amount of people i meet who hate their job but are doing nothing about it, its'the amount of talent they don't believe in themselves... ...it is the amount to people haven't taken action on something thats in there head and they're going live for regret.
00:44:07: And..I dont think this is a high achievement.... ..i think you can realize how much life you want.
00:44:14: All it Is is a few baby steps And so my job is not to make everyone entrepreneur.
00:44:20: My, my job Is To Help Everyone Believe That Anything Is Possible and Feel Like They've Got The Support Knowledge Funding Education Whatever It Is To Actually Achieve That Thing And Not Feel Alone Doing it Right.
00:44:33: Because I Feel like Most Professions Let's Say Like Doctors Or Lawyers they Have Organizations Where They Support Each Other Entrepreneurship In Particular And i Think Its the Wrong Word.
00:44:42: its A French Word.
00:44:44: I've been desperately looking for a new word.
00:45:07: I don't want people feeling like their default is this job they don't love, because they can't do the thing that they DO love.
00:45:20: And so...I'm against slavery!
00:45:24: Right?
00:45:24: That's it.
00:45:26: Don't want PEOPLE to not have options and i feel right now a lot of people don't have informed consent When they're signing up for university.
00:45:34: They don't fully understand what they are signing out for and their aim Is get this job at end but either won't exist or wont bring them satisfaction.
00:45:43: All I want to do is make sure people know that before they waste five years of their life learning something they may or may not enjoy.
00:45:49: So for example, i went to a university recently and asked these kids what you wanna be?
00:45:53: One one said Be A Lawyer!
00:45:55: I said my neighbour's a lawyer.
00:45:56: Do You Want To Meet Them And Find Out What That Is Actually Like Oh alright could do that.
00:46:00: They've never spoken to a lawyer, they have never actually watched your lifelike Watched Your Job, like is it satisfying?
00:46:05: Ive seen on TV, sounds cool saying Im a lawyer The lawyer who was my neighbour the most miserable person ive ever met.
00:46:11: They are so miserable They shout at my dog.
00:46:14: That's how miserable they are, right?
00:46:16: Like you're spreading
00:46:16: too many dreams
00:46:17: unhappy now.
00:46:18: that's not true for every lawyers but I'm saying like go interview the people whose dream You think you want and make sure you want it.
00:46:26: Make sure you need it.
00:46:27: boy just as important
00:46:29: The guiding quote that i always used in My In my athletic career during this was don't die wandering
00:46:36: Don't die wondering.
00:46:36: you love that yeah.
00:46:37: Is there no trademark?
00:46:38: well like that
00:46:40: Just don't died wondering with a Yeah.
00:46:42: Whether you can go after the stream, whether you can chase something because that's what I find.
00:46:47: well it's exactly their regret to speak too and then kind of wake up twenty years afterwards.
00:46:52: And of course in sports The timeline is much shorter.
00:46:54: You know by the time your mid late thirties That timelines up whereas you could try all sorts Of other things.
00:47:01: but yeah don't die wondering
00:47:06: The amount of times you must have been told no, You couldn't become a gold medalist.
00:47:10: Must've being the huge amount.
00:47:11: What was pushing you through that?
00:47:13: what kept you believing
00:47:15: I had nowhere else to go!
00:47:17: You needed it...I
00:47:19: needed it like sports was one thing That made me someone ya know.. I grew up and It was way to rebel against my parents.
00:47:29: So there's little bit of spite.
00:47:30: There is a little bit Anger i could channel into but most all if think this thing, it was just always there.
00:47:39: You know the sport has always accepted me for who I was and therefore It kept driving me towards This dream of The Olympics.
00:47:49: so basically my household sports.
00:47:51: which absolute taboo right?
00:47:52: And then eventually the Olympics were on TV at My grandparents house and all these people are being celebrated as heroes.
00:47:59: and i was like yes Subconsciously i mean i'm i was seven at the time but that i was okay.
00:48:05: This is my path.
00:48:06: I left South Africa and came back to Europe, try make it as a pro.
00:48:09: I had four hundred bucks in my pocket two hundred was stolen And...I have ticket on the way home.
00:48:17: there is no way in hell.
00:48:20: i'm using this Long story short.. I win.
00:48:25: My first international race happens to be olympics At same time .. I crush that dream.
00:48:34: That took me forever To consciously re-find a new dream?
00:48:40: How did you go about it, because you said exactly the same.
00:48:42: You sold your business assuming that your business was-was your dream and the financial freedom...you fall into this hole!
00:48:49: It's very common amongst Olympic champions as a study I don't know there but more than half of them fallen to a heap.
00:48:56: have you ever experienced it?
00:48:57: yeah what are you doing now?
00:48:59: Yeah no i definitely experienced it..I think its.
00:49:02: um well how did you get out?
00:49:08: Are you going through it?
00:49:09: I mean, what's your stage now.
00:49:16: the next title would probably just leave me empty again.
00:49:39: And so finding that really served a curiosity, then that served me until well into my forties.
00:49:46: I think if you look at history...I love history.
00:49:47: it tells your future.
00:49:48: but If You Look At History you'll see all these people.
00:49:51: they say Carnegie right?
00:49:53: The history of this famous multi-billionaire folks.
00:49:57: They start off very selfish making for themselves and you could argue about getting sued.
00:50:03: i think Carnegie can still sue me that.
00:50:05: you know, they did a lot of evil things.
00:50:07: But they made a lot money and then they flip at some point and they realized like Mark Zuckerberg's trying to do now right?
00:50:15: Build the foundations and help people get back... There really is something quite powerful in switching it from achieving your own personal dream to helping other people with theirs.
00:50:28: And everybody I've seen who takes this approach after being very successful was happy.
00:50:33: And those that seek the glory days, the previous high.
00:50:39: That original whatever within The Olympics I can't even imagine but like... ...I built a business and sold it!
00:50:45: You know?
00:50:45: That high is not A good thing to experience because in some respects everything else after that It has no feeling.
00:50:56: So i think new high must be seeing someone else build their business and sell it or win the Olympics, right?
00:51:02: Yeah.
00:51:02: I think they put a ladder down model which people here... Oh you should help people put that ladder down to help next generation.
00:51:09: It's not just good idea for society its' good ideas of individual Like.
00:51:14: i find myself now like..I want be useful when being seen.
00:51:19: Yes!
00:51:19: I don't need make money.
00:51:21: so can take out equation Which by the way is super privilege freeing thing.
00:51:26: do because im able building something Without the need to make money from it.
00:51:30: Mm-hmm, but that I have made a conscious decision To build up for profit for good as opposed of charity because charities unfortunately get slammed As you can't pay people properly?
00:51:42: I bought staircase in London.
00:51:43: no charity would let You do That.
00:51:44: You know, I've invested in really expensive people.
00:51:47: Really talented people that you know i'm competing with Google for.
00:51:51: so if my charity and i'm giving huge amounts of money to these people To do the job?
00:51:56: Yeah getting into trouble because it's a charity but a for-profit That does good.
00:51:59: am I now have to do this right?
00:52:01: So I think business model matters.
00:52:03: But like my point i'm getting too is like...I Think anyone are furthering their situation.
00:52:07: The best thing you can ever Do Is go back to My original Point.
00:52:11: How Can You Help People?
00:52:13: And you can help people make money.
00:52:14: I think there's nothing wrong with that.
00:52:15: Yeah, a lot of people when i first started out like always only doing this to make himself famous and To Make Himself Money?
00:52:21: I Think People That Do Businesses That Help Society Should Be Making The Most Amount Of Money.
00:52:27: Why Is It Nurses Get Paid At Least?
00:52:29: why is it Police get paid the least while We Actually Paying The People Who do the most good for society at least amount of Money?
00:52:36: and Why Is it if You're Banker When You go Out and you fuck people up mortgages and cause a financial crisis that puts every country back in debt.
00:52:45: We're happy to pay them loads!
00:52:47: That's banking, doesn't make any sense to me.
00:52:50: I actually think we need change the culture to like anyone who is building business helps people back it.
00:52:55: And i'm launching coffee brand.
00:52:59: Don't buy Starbucks.
00:53:00: they just makes shareholders rich and coffees pretty shit.
00:53:03: Im launching new product called Dream Brew.
00:53:05: its better than Starbucks and will use profit for fund peoples dreams.
00:53:10: So it's good business to do a good business.
00:53:12: Yeah, are
00:53:13: you gonna have better coffee than Starbucks?
00:53:15: Slightly better.
00:53:16: I don't want get people's expectations too high.
00:53:19: Can't wait to taste it!
00:53:26: It really is something... Let me rephrase this.. I do wonder whether we always discover these dreams or afterwards Do we just tell ourselves They were dreams to justify the suffering we've gone through.
00:53:51: I think there are people that have born knowing exactly what they're meant to do, and some people go on to do those things... ...and some get distracted by other people telling them they can't do it or then tell themselves they cannot do it?
00:54:06: I think a lot of people who don't know their dream yet because haven't put themselves for a painful situation.
00:54:13: so if you want to be a pro footballer and try do it.
00:54:16: And let's say that don't succeed, but then what is like why didn't succeeded?
00:54:22: You can help someone who wants become a pro-footballer.
00:54:25: so I think... It just the journey isn'it?
00:54:27: one of best things i ever did at twenty three years old was move to Hong Kong.
00:54:31: I didn't know anything about Hong Kong!
00:54:33: I live in England went on plane lived completely different city yeah..and taught me whole new world whole new life.
00:54:40: now wasn't my dream to living Hong Kong.
00:54:43: It was actually very uncomfortable when I moved there because the whole culture is so different to my life previously.
00:54:49: I hated it for six months, but after six months of living there now...I love it!
00:54:55: Because on the other side a pain.
00:54:58: is that joy right?
00:54:59: So i'm sure its the same.
00:55:00: you know and your doing what you do.
00:55:02: You push through the pain then you win a gold.
00:55:04: Yeah Oh My God Is it worth it Right like..i think people should actually inflict pain in themselves.
00:55:10: It sounds weird, but if I think purpose is often hidden in pain But you kind of need pain now pain can simply be.
00:55:17: and this was my friend of mine.
00:55:18: He went on holiday to puke.
00:55:20: He saw all the plastic bottles water in the water And he thought no that's not right Right?
00:55:25: He had a beautiful holiday But experience something that made him feel pain and then for the next ten years it could completely obsessive.
00:55:32: How can i remove plastic from water?
00:55:34: yeah, so I think people should like People that don't put pain in their life, also I find to be very boring people.
00:55:40: If you meet someone and they're like how's your life?
00:55:42: Great everything is good.
00:55:43: Oh right then You know Like...I liked hearing about the business.
00:55:47: it completely failed.
00:55:47: Well what happened?
00:55:48: I lost a hundred million trying to blah blah blah.
00:55:51: Wow!
00:55:52: Let us be friends.
00:55:55: Failure The old line failure is good.
00:55:57: These stories of failure make your life interesting Just simply because you can repeat this story.
00:56:02: Yeah.
00:56:02: Right, no one just wants they are.
00:56:04: I went to work at a bank and then i earned all this money And then I retired...
00:56:08: ...and play golf.
00:56:09: All
00:56:09: right then Great!
00:56:11: Great Oh see you later.
00:56:14: Simon I have to ask you You've learned so many things You've gone through this pain You've been stubborn You're persistent.
00:56:24: Would your fifteen year old self listen now?
00:56:29: Do you think?
00:56:31: I think the fifteen-year-old me Desperately needed The fifty-two year old me.
00:56:38: I just know there was no knowledge around back in that time.
00:56:42: There's we've got the internet now, which really helps but it was No III find myself?
00:56:46: I couldn't get a job.
00:56:47: I could give help from social services had to start something and needed It didn't Just want it But there Was no
00:56:53: Help.
00:56:54: you Know there was nobody doing it without an agenda.
00:56:58: That one person i did ask for help Wanted To charge Me For Help And I remember Them Saying to me I help you Simon, but you have to pay.
00:57:07: I think it was five hundred pounds or something for this thing To learn how to build a business.
00:57:11: right.
00:57:12: and um i said i don't Have any money to do that?
00:57:15: I just don't have the money.
00:57:16: listen if You don't pay you don't Pay attention now as The first bullshit sales line.
00:57:20: hmm i ever learned i realized like i'll pay Attention because pain Makes people pay attention not paying.
00:57:28: Right Now paying can be one form of pain If It's enough.
00:57:31: sure i know plenty Of People were paying For A gym membership And Don't go.
00:57:34: But if they're told to get diabetes tomorrow, If They Don't Go.
00:57:37: There'll go.
00:57:37: yeah right.
00:57:38: so I think in fact Jim Bim's business is a bill on the fact that no one turns up even though their paid.
00:57:43: So back to your point i'm pretty proud.
00:57:47: I always Think About That Fifteen Year Old Me.
00:57:49: When Im Doing The Content I try To Swear Less Because I Like To Sware.
00:57:53: I Try To Give Practical Advice Not Just Theoretical Inspiration and I think the fifteen-year old me would part listen to the fifty two year old.
00:58:04: Me, but at least there'd be someone they're helping that.
00:58:07: fifteen years on me Um i could probably swear less.
00:58:10: That's what you've been thinking.
00:58:12: it doesn't make you powerful to swear all of a time does it anyway?
00:58:16: Yeah Don't have asked the question properly But
00:58:18: It's been an hour off going mental!
00:58:20: I Would love To know What Going Mental means to You and when The last Time was that you went mental.
00:58:28: My eight-year old wouldn't put his shoes on this morning If anyone could give me a tip of how to encourage an eight year old, but their shoes on that doesn't involve bribing them.
00:58:37: Let me know.
00:58:39: Simon I really appreciate what you put out there.
00:58:42: I Did for a second believe That you had a trademark On the word dreams and could start charging everybody.
00:58:51: yeah?
00:58:51: Yeah was one of my favorite April Fool's jokes.
00:58:53: true
00:58:53: though I actually own the trademark that we deliberately launched it on April Fools.
00:58:58: Yeah, I
00:58:58: owned a trademark to The Word Dream and the thing is one of my failed businesses was a business where even now i'm legally scared to talk about It but like...I basically had a name really good name for A Business yeah And it's called Foodie and did really well.
00:59:14: in China.
00:59:15: then someone basically cyber squatted the trademark And almost destroyed the business by telling me I had to pay them.
00:59:35: No, I wanted to be able use the word freely without being sued.
00:59:38: Yeah And so I trademarked the words or I can use it about being sued.
00:59:42: but The thing is i won't sue anyone for using It?
00:59:44: I want everyone To have a dream.
00:59:45: Everyone Can Use the Word Dream.
00:59:46: I WANT PEOPLE TO DREAM.
00:59:48: If Anyone Deserves That Trade Markets you and
00:59:51: I appreciate that.
00:59:52: yeah But I Won't Be suing Anyone.
00:59:54: You Can Use It.
00:59:55: Thanks A lot For Helping Me Achieve My Dream.
00:59:57: thanks Of
00:59:57: Course.
00:59:57: Thank You For Having me on Appreciate
00:59:59: it And We'll Come Check In On Your Five K Time.
01:00:01: Yeah Start Tomorrow.
01:00:04: Yeah, that does actually motivate me.
